"Super Bowl Sunday" -by Randi Hilary

Super Bowl Sunday.....It's almost enough to make me wish I could be a football fan, and yet the Super Bowl part is something I can definitely relate to. Super (Large) Bowls of endless food.  The chips, the dip, the popcorn, the peanuts, to name just a few. And no matter how super the bowl of food is, it's still gonna end up on the floor, largely unnoticed by the hooting, hollering mouths it was intended for.  By now you've probably figured out that the author behind this post you're reading is a woman. You might even ask yourself why she doesn't just doesn't plan a nice shopping trip on this historic day and avoid all the outward displays of testosterone laden emotions directed at the latest wall size LCD TV engulfing the living-room?
Why wouldn't she spend the day visiting some of the friends that require her to keep this years model, color coordinated iPhone, with her at all times? The reason is simple. "She" knows, that if not for her mere presence the new window curtains would probably be shredded in strips to be worn as sweat bands on their heads. That if she wasn't there to cast "don't you dare" glances, that they would be - without thinking of course - standing up on the sofa, cleats and all, to get a better view of their teams touchdown... (and still, the TV isn't big enough)! "He" would never acknowledge that anything like that could possibly happen.  And year after year, even with all the precautions, no one, ever, has a proper explanation for how the guacamole ended up all over the dog.
With all that goes on, what's really amazing, is not that the divorce rate isn't higher than it is, but that on Monday morning, "he" can put on a nice clean suit for work, walk out the front door and wave to the neighbor, as if nothing unusual took place here.  And as she watches through the mustard on the window, "she" knows..."SHE KNOWS"...no matter what, that next year...it's all going to happen again.
